According to the Amarillo Police Department, 30 people have been arrested on charges of driving while intoxicated in May alone. Unfortunately, they expect the rate of arrests to increase as summer moves into full swing.
The Amarillo Police Department has seen that DWI arrests increase with the temperature. This is because as it gets hot, people want a cold drink. They then go overboard and get arrested. Unfortunately, many people do not realize that they can get arrested for this and fewer recognize the chance of injury or death to themselves or others.
The DA of Randall County does not feel that people shouldn’t drink. He wants people not to drink and then drive. Hence, the crime being driving while intoxicated rather than drinking.

Chicago Bears and former University of Texas runningback Cedric Benson was charged with boating while intoxicated as well as resisting arrest.
The 4th-overall pick in the 2005 draft was charged with a BWI and resisting arrest after failing a sobriety test that was administered on Lake Travis, near Austin.
If he is convicted, Benson will face up to 6 months in jail and a fine of $2000 for each of his two Class B misdemeanors.
Benson was out enjoying a Saturday on the lake with 15 family members and friends aboard when he was stopped by a Lower Colorado River Authority for a random safety inspection. The authorities say Benson failed the field sobriety test on the officers’ boat and was uncooperative when the officer tried to take him to shore.
If you have been charged with boating while intoxicated, the same penalties available for driving while intoxicated apply. If you are in need of an experienced DWI defense lawyer, contact the Dallas DWI lawyers of the Law Offices of Mark T Lassiter at 214-457-1668.
Williamson state representative Mike Krusee was arrested last Thursday on suspicions of Driving While Intoxicated (DWI).
Representative Krusee, a Republican from Williamson County, was one of the members of the state legislature who pushed for tougher DWI laws. He was arrested Wednesday night and posted bond Thursday morning.
The representative was stopped by an officer while he was driving along Anderson Mill erratically in Austin. The officer pulled the representative over a few blocks later. He then administered a sobriety test, which, according to the officer’s papers, the representative failed.
Representative Krusee was the authoer of the Driver Responsibility program. It is now the law and requires first time offenders to pay a $1000 surcharge and more money for subsequent convictions.
