Michael Anthony Almendarez, age 36, was driving a Jeep Cherokee through Spring Lake, NC, when his car hit a fire hydrant and flipped over around 4:30 Sunday morning. The car crashed into a mobile home before coming to a rest on its passenger side. Almendarez and his passenger received minor injuries; no one inside the mobile home was hurt. Three hours after the wreck, a Breathalyzer test showed Almendarez’s BAC to be .09, above the legal limit. The wreck allegedly caused about $15,000 worth of damage to the home it struck, supposedly taking off the back of the house. Alemndarez and his passenger are both soldiers stationed at Fort Bragg. He has been charged with DWI, careless and reckless driving, and driving without a license. Although he has a Texas license, it had been marked non-renewal.
