Weekend DWIs

Over Memorial Day weekend, police were on the lookout for drunk drivers. As such, the Dallas Police Department arrested 38 people on charges of DWI over the three day weekend. Of those 38, 13 refused to submit to sobriety tests.

As a result, warrants were issued to allow blood draws for those 13 drivers.  These 38 DWIs could have very serious consequences for many of the arrested people and the people around them.

DWI Checkpoint Bill Dead in House

A bill that would allow authorities to conduct DWI checkpoints in Texas passed in the Senate recently. However, now that it is in the House, it seems to be dying. The House Criminal Jurisprudence Committee will likely not vote on the bill at all.

The bill would have allowed checkpoints in cities with populations of 325,000 or more. Any checkpoint would have had to be submitted in writing with details about the date, time and location. However, it does not seem like these checkpoints will be seen in Texas any time soon.
